The songs lyrics directly addresses issues including terrorism, racism, gang crime, pollution, war, intolerance, and violence against LGBT people. As soon as the song was released it was an immediate eye opener and forces us to have a think about what is going on in the world, and how we can love and appreciate those around us. -The song talks about unnecessary violence going on in the world and where has all the peace and love disappeared to over time. There is an underlying selfishness among people and they we've forgotten about being human and helping other in need instead of starting or making war. -Throughout the video "Black Eyed Peas" have put aside there musical importance and become almost one of us, trying to combat this massive issue by using their huge platform to get the word out. This made them extremely respected by many as they are not trying to get famous from showing there celebrity lifestyle but helping in ways many artists in that time didn't. This appeals to the audience ad they are showing a humanitarian stance. -Will.I.Am and Taboo are going around in a van trying to get the word out whilst Fergie and others are posting question marks over the streets. apl.de.ap gets arrested near the end for trying to spread the truth. This was due to people being reluctant about hearing the truth. -The music video is of hop-hop genre shown through the mise-en-scene, lyrics and cinetamotrgarphy all those which the band is using associated with. -The video is positive which is unlike other hip-hop videos which majority are more to do with money and a wealthy lifestyle. Cinematography, Editing and Sound -This music video follows the typical conventions of the artist performing with lots of fast cuts and close up shots. This video also contains a story behind it which is usually very common. -There is continuous use of a long shot of either the artist or the background usually the question mark symbol which is seen through the video which is usually very shot then follows with a close up version of that exact shot, which allows the audience to understand dates concept and idea towards it. -There are Voyeur shots of people sticking the stickers everywhere. -Close up of children singing the song -Throughout the video most of the clips shot are handheld shots and fast tracking of the police car chase. -There are continuous jump cuts between the band and the people around the city. -Crane shots of the crowd of children. -Towards the end of the video their a low angled shots of the artist who was arrested. -Towards the end of the video their is a lack of motivated cut as they all look to the sky but the audience doesn't get to seeing what they are seeing. -The sound is not altered at all and no extra sounds are used. the track is just used and the artists are lip-syncing in the video along with extras. -At the start of the video there is a long clip following the symbol used throughout the video this was maybe use to intrigue the audience. The handheld sure is shaken but as soon as the first beat in the song hit the clips are short and match perfectly with the backing track which is oddly satisfying as an audience member. These short and fast clips could represent the fast pace motion of society. -Throughout the video black and and very bright overly saturated colour like white and cream seemed to be used frequently throughout the video. These contrasting colours could maybe represent the good and bad in society and how the good should overpower the bad as in a few shots the sun and bright colours are almost seen to be peaking through however there seemed to be a mojority of dark colours which could portray darkness that still lives within our society. -The longest shots within the video are seen to be the artists lip-syncing towards the camera. Mise-en-scene -The question mark posters throughout the video are meant to question people asking "where is the love?", those poster are coloured black, red and white which typically red and black sometimes give feelings of aggression but urgency which is definelty a reason why this colour what chosen. But these colours where chosen for a reason: Red = this colour connotes energy, courage, strength and stimulation all of which need to be used in order to change society for good. Black = the colour black also can denote strength and authority, this is important in change and authority could mean those top tart the change and guide people in a positive way to help others. White = the colour white is always seen to be a positive colour, it means safety, purity and cleanliness all of which have a positive connotation. White can also mean a successful beginning, this could represent everyone willing to spread positivity and replace this negativity with positivity. -The black van is used to spread the message as public service announcement to not just the people in the video but to everyone watching. -The statue of liberty and the graffiti of Che Guevara are meant to represent freedom. -Violent video games show that young children are being influence by what they see -City landmarks show that they are taking over -The artists stick to their ordinal dress code this is of street wear. They are wearing baggy, unfitted clothing apart from the women whom is wearing a white vest top, their clothing is basic and doesn't stand out too much os the audience can focus on the lyrics and visual shots.
