Mood Board for "Independent Women. Pt 1" by Destiny's Child.
Create a mood board, either physically using glue and scissors, or digitally. Upload it to your blog; write a short entry on why you have used what you have on the board and it conforms to the expectations of your music genre. Approx 90 minutes
For my music video I have decided to have very neutral tones, soft tones and contrast these occasionally bright and stylish colours, for exmaple red lipstick or a piece of eye-catching clothing - this will give the video a contmepary and sophisticated look. Throughout the video I will film in numerous locations, daylight and dark shots lit my maybe candle light to give it a sensual feel, suggesting that no women don't need to dress up for men but for their own pleasure.
In my music video I have taken inspiration of this shot of Beyonce in an Hollywood mirror, which I would love to incoperate into my video, it gives it a glamorous feel and relates to the time era that I would love to set have the video inspired by but set to this day. This glamorous feel to the video would also contrast to parts of the video where she would be in her natural day-to-day attire.
Further intertextuality will be created through references to Ariana Grande's music video 'Dangerous Women' her close up shots to her face but also her dark background with a saturated bright light shining on her face I thought was extremely effective. The video contains continous shots of Araina Grande lip-syncing towards the camera with eye eye contact this I believe connects with the audience member on a meaningful level, she is promoting as a young women to feel powerful in your own body and not let anybody overlook you and tell you otherwise, I believe that this message heavily is important for my demographic and will hopefully open their eyes into how beautiful and powerful they are and where hard work can take you.
I love to incorporate shots of black and white cinematography this in high contrast I think looks highly effective, but without colour to lead the viewers eyes, the areas where the viewers eyes will focus on with be ares of sharp contrast, therefore need to make an important decision in which parts I think will be visually highly effective and draw the audiences attention.
This conforms to the expectations of my music genre as its an independent women shown in natural beauty with freedom to pursue her dreams, it will show hard work and determination and no need for a man. Without social movements and spreading awareness we wouldn't be were we are today and to my 16-25 year old demographic who will be entering work placements and perusing their career ambitions this message and social problem is important to closing this socially constructed gap. With more knowledge and having positive role models who have come from a economically normal background is highly inspirational for young girls.
My main aim for the video is to completely conform to the expectation of the music video, the powerful young women pursuing her career and dreams will be an obvious expectation but to give a deeper sense of female freedom throughout the music video there will be glimpses of symbols and quotes used in the flags of of many campaigns for the women's suffrages. I want to incorporate sunflowers in my music video, not only will this bold colour completely contrast with the neutral tones of the video. In, 1867 Kansas suffragists adopted the sunflower, the state flower as a symbol of their campaign, the flower has a direct connection between the women's access to vote and the creation of temperance laws. from then onwards, the colour yellow/gold has been associated with the "colour of light and life" as it is seen to touch that guides our purpose and purity labels I believe lead to not only success but to shape a kind and loving person. Throughout my music video I will feature the colour gold, as I believe it shows her success and that her glamorous self is for her own personal self.
I also want to incorporate the symbol of the Women's Rights symbol, this not only spreads awareness to my demographic of how important this topic is in us gaining freedom from complete independence. I want to show this as a poster or shown somewhere in the video that is memorable for the audience, there will also we poster in one shot of women's rights marches and signs to fully enhance the storyline and show that she believes in women's rights and that no man has gained her any financial success.

You have created a very clear sense of the colour palette for your video, which is lovely - was this intentional? As you wrote that you were planning to use neutral tones? I like the blue - as a traditionally masculine colour it could work really well to subvert gender signifiers?. You could have included a couple more images regarding location and storyline just to make those aspects a bit clearer. Well done!
