1.What have you learned?
During the process of filming and editing my music video I have learnt that a complete storyboard and plan is necessary to be able to film a successful music video with a clear narrative to entice an audience. I have also learnt that a song that you are able to apply you storyline is key along with a song you that inspires you to be able to achieve success. When creating a music video I learnt that mise-en-scene is extremely important in different ways depending on style if is conventional or mainstream either way shows a level of pure professionalism.

 2.If you encountered any problems?
Whilst editing my music video I realised that I hadn't filmed enough shots so had to re-use some making it sometimes quite repetitive, so learnt that filming additional shots and extras are important just in case this is a problem. I found it hard to get a date that everyone could attend to but in the end found one. When filming sometimes in various shots those in my video look quite uncomfortable and awkward so had to cut a few shots due to this. Secondly, whilst filming my music video I realised that some shots were rushed meaning in the end I wasn't happy with the overall outcome of them so decided to ditch them. In the future I will make sure I take several shots of each scene to make sure that everyone is used. When I started editing in class I realised that I hadn't shot enough footage to make a minutes worth of film so in the future I will be able to learn from this mistake.

 3.How will you improve?
Throughout this process through encountering problems I have realised techniques in which I could improve my work. Firstly, the shots that involved lip-syncing, in the future I would have shot these a few times just in case the timing was incorrect. Filming additional or extra shots for the future is extremely important to make sure its long enough, giving the audience a wide variety of shots throughout the music video keeps them enticed. In the future I would use a wider variety of camera shots and angles, and keep away from repetitive and useless shots. Whilst filming the music video I realised that its very important to look in the background of the shot, as during the process I had bags and lighting boxes which ruined some shots but overall looks extremely unprofessional. Lastly, before filming my final music video I will be determined to find people whom are full of confidence and will feel comfortable on doing anything which I have on my storyboard, finding someone who is willing to do this will really enhance the video. These certain skills that I had learnt from encountering problems will enable me in the final project to use my filming and editing skills but also management expertise to show my work in the best way possible. When filming my music video there were aspects of some shots that when editing I was exceedingly proud of, for example this shot I personally thought was a success as the overall position of those in the music video is satisfying to the audience due to the their body positions I thought this conveyed them as powerful and independent women. Overall, the lighting and frame of this I was pleased with along with the aspect lip-syncing that luckily matched perfectly.

Here are a few other shots that I was pleased with the outcome of...

I was pleased with this as I feel it matches with my original intentions of the shot, the red lipstick contrasts with the cool tones within the video. The colour red is a hot, strong, stimulating colour that represents excitement and energy.

However, throughout this procedure their were moments which I was disappointed with. factors due to lighting, lip-syncing and frame of shot. This screenshot from that shot shows them walking down the stairway I took the inspiration for this shot from an Ariana Grande music video, almost as intertexulaity. But the shot I wasn't happy with due to a few reasons the dark lighting stands out from the other shots as the other have bright, clear lighting, similarly the angle this was taken out should have been improved and taken at a lower angle to show the extravagant staircase. Lastly, my friends in the shot look slightly awkward and uncomfortable so in the future I will maybe make sure they understand my overall aspirations for the shot or find someone who is willing to do so.

  1. On the whole there are some useful reflections here. It is vital that you film at least 3 takes (from my experience) of each shot so that you have a choice of the best one for the final product, especially for a music video in which there is lip-syncing. It is good to see that you have identified specific areas that could be improved as this will help you with your coursework. Be sure to meticulously plan each shot with its duration, shot-type and location so that you have ample footage to play with. Well done. Miss Cook :)
