First ten frames of the protest song - "Where is the love?".

First ten frames of the protest song - "Where is the love?"by Black Eyed Peas Take the first ten frames of three protest videos and analyse their shot type and duration, transitions between shots, M-E-S, and whether it is performative or narrative. Put a screen shot of each of these plus your analysis on your blog.

First shot

-This is the first shot of the music video, this close up shot of this large poster questions "where is the love?" opening people's eyes to this crisis.
-This shot at the beginning of the song lasts for 0.08 seconds, this could be to make people aware of this poster which is shown in majority fo shots throughout the video.
-The transition for this shot is narrative, as it is visually telling a story.
-The colours on this poster where specifically chosen to represent the meaning of the poster but for the song as a whole -Red = this colour connotes energy, courage, strength and stimulation all of which need to be used in order to change society for good. Black = the colour black also can denote strength and authority, this is important in change and authority could mean those top tart the change and guide people in a positive way to help others. White = the colour white is always seen to be a positive colour, it means safety, purity and cleanliness all of which have a positive connotation. White can also mean a successful beginning, this could represent everyone willing to spread positivity and replace this negativity with positivity.

 Second shot

-This medium-long shot shows people running down the street spreading the message by plastering their posters around the city, it pans from the shot of the poster to then realising that someone is holding it.
-The duration of this shot is for 0.03 seconds so after the beat drops after the first shot the duration of the shots decrease and the amount of shots increases.
-The setting of the video is not really shown yet, as we are still unaware to see where it is set.
-The shot is a tracking shot, as it moves with the men running.
-This shot is performative as they are telling a story through the characters.

Third shot

-This medium close-up shot shows a sign of "No Public Entrance", it shares the same colour scheme of the poster in the first shot. It shares that Black Eyed Peas are already breaking the rules, and hints for the ending where they get arrested.
-This shot again focuses on the sign which takes up majority of the screen space but still is not showing clearly the background.
-The colour red also suggests danger which could follow later in the video.
-The duration of this shot last for 0.01 second which follows the beat of the song.
-This is a narrative shot.
-The handheld shot.

Fourth shot

-This medium close-up shot but is almost from down below tilting the lens upwards again this shows the poster on a place of public property. The title of the song immediatly shows that the question mark is asking 'where is the love?" and that they are spreading the message publicly.
-The monochromatic colour scheme draws your attention to the poster.
-The shot is started by a man sticking it to the wall then zooming in to the poster.
-This is a handheld shot.
-This is also a narrative shot.

Fifth shot

-This wide-medium long shot, is the first shot where the backround and setting has officially been shown.
-It shows the typical surrounding of a downtown area in America. The high rise flats dominate the shot along with the large poster.
-The duration of this shot last for 0.02 seconds.
-This shot is not a handheld shot.
--This is also a narrative shot.

Sixth shot

-This tracking shot follows this man round the block.
-It is a medium-close up shot.
-The shot duration lasts for 0.02 seconds which is the average time that each of these shots lasts at the beginning.
-We are unable to the see the face of the man, which adds mystery and makes us question who is doing this?
-This is a narrative shot.

Seventh shot

-This medium-long shot shows a man plastering those posters on a wall.
-The colour scheme stays black, white and red.
-This shot lasts for 0.01 second.
-It is a narration shot.
-The introduction for this song lasts for 0.23 seconds which is far from the usual conventions of other music videos, this may have been the case to set the scene.

Eighth shot

-This medium tracking shot shows a a man with the window down watching men in black tracksuits run down the road, which may be the men putting these posters up. The story line is confused at the point making us think about what's happening so far.
-This is a preformative shot.
-This shot last for 0.02 seconds.

Ninth shot

-This shot again shows the poster on a sign for "no entry within permission" in the same colour scheme of the poster. Almost questioning why isn't it often to everyone and only specific people and "where is the love".
-Medium-close up shot.
-Narrative shot.

Tenth shot

-This long-shot shows the the vehicle in which the artists are travelling in.

  1. This is a great post and you have obviously put lots of effort into it. Make sure that you are considering the effect/purpose of each shot as well as what type it is. Well done! Miss Cook :)
